If you damaged or missing teeth that make you hide your smile, consider a dental crown or bridge to help you restore your confidence and your smile! Our dentists serve the McMurray area with pride, providing quality, compassionate cosmetic dental care to help patients regain their smile.
Crowns and bridges play an essential role in restoring teeth to their natural look after decay or trauma have weakened the structure of the tooth. Many people require crowns and bridges following root canal therapy or after losing a tooth.
Both dental crown and bridges are used to restore your smile with a natural look and feel. Dr. Severns uses all-porcelain crowns and bridges made with high-quality material that will provide you with a beautiful and confident smile for many years to come.
A crown sometimes called a cap, is used to cover the entire damaged tooth to approve its shape, appearance, or alignment. A crown will also help improve the strength of the tooth that has been weakened by damaged or decay.
Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth’s appearance after a root canal procedure, a tooth fracture, or if decayed teeth with large fillings are present. The porcelain crowns we use can be matched to the color of your natural teeth.
Typically, a dental crown restoration will be completed over two visits. During the first visit, we will remove any tooth decay that is present, take an impression of your tooth that will be used to make your dental crown, and fit you with a temporary crown.
At your second visit, we will fit your new crown, so it feels comfortable in your mouth, making every effort to ensure it feels like one of your natural teeth. Once the crown is positioned comfortably, we will permanently cement the crown into your mouth.
A bridge can be used to restore your smile if you are missing one or more teeth. A bridge spans the space where the tooth or teeth are missing, preventing teeth from shifting or rotating, helping you to avoid a “bad bite.” By using a dental bridge, you can avoid issues such as gum disease, and you can regain the ability to eat and speak easier.
A bridge works by attaching the bridge or (natural looking restorative teeth) to both sides of the gap. The process of creating a bridge involves creating a crown for the tooth on each side of the missing tooth, then placing a dental bridge in between. We will complete this process over two visits.
During the first visit, we prepare your natural teeth, or abutments by shaping them to ensure the ends of the bridge fit in your mouth comfortably. We will then take an impression of your teeth which will be used to create the dental bridge, and we will also fit you with a natural looking temporary restoration.
At your second visit, we will fit your new dental bridge comfortably in your mouth, making sure it looks and feels natural. After we fit the bridge, we will cement it in place.
